FAQ

How do I select preferred sources in Google Search?

As a searcher, you manage your own preferred sources directly in Google — a site's button (like the one above) just takes you to that screen with the site ready to add. There are two ways to do it yourself:

  1. Go to google.com or the Google app, open your profile picture in the top right, then go to Search personalization → Source preferences, search for the sites you like, and check the box next to each one.
  2. Search for a recent news topic on Google, click the star icon next to the Top stories header, check the sources you want, then click Reload results.

You can select as many sources as you want and change them anytime. Sign in to your Google Account and the selections sync across every browser and device. See Google's help article for the full steps.

When did Google News preferred sources roll out?

Google launched Preferred Sources for the US and India in August 2025. On December 10, 2025, it announced a global rollout to English-language users, with other supported languages following in the months after. The Spanish-language rollout was confirmed on April 30, 2026.
